Carrying out a community mission

Psi Iota Xi Sorority is a national philanthropic organization. Our primary purpost is to work cooperatively within our communities, serving people and organizations with our time, talents, and financial resources.

Locally in the Iota Lambda chapter, we carry out this mission through several annual projects including a no-cost summer speech clinic for children. We also provide scholarships to local students for summer camps and undergraduate education.

Fundraising for a cause

Each year we hold three major fundraisers: a booth at the local Christkindlmarkt to sell cheeseballs, a poinsetta sale in November, and a geranium sale in the spring. These funds support programs that help area children improve their education, articulation, and their ability to hear and understand people. They also support the work of local artists and recognize the talents of students in musical, artistic, and public-speaking pursuits. Through the generous support of Dubois County and surrounding communities, we help improve the lives of those around us.

An organization with deep roots

Psi Iota Xi is a national philanthropic organization that was founded in Muncie, Indiana in 1897. Its membership is concentrated in 6 Midwestern states with 150 chapters and 5,000 active members. Nationally, Psi Iota Xi donates over one million dollars to philanthropic projects each year.

The primary purpose of Psi Iota Xi is to be of service with time, money, and love in a cooperative effort with the community. It has gained national recognition helping children with speech and hearing needs. Our support of the Cochlear Implant Research Team at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, has resulted in major grants from the National Institutes of Health. Psi Iota Xi recently endowed a professorship at Riley to ensure that research in this area will continue.

Nationally, Psi Iota Xi supports the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation, Hoosier Art Salon, Gallaudet University Dance Scholarships, Camp Adventure Deaf Camp, Cleft Palate Research, and the Metropolitan Regional Opera Auditions.
