The Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand, Indiana, live the 1500-year-old monastic tradition of the Rule of St. Benedict, a spiritual path for finding God in the circumstances of daily life. They operate Kordes Center, a spiritual growth center for people of all faiths, and For Heaven’s Sake, the monastery gift shop, both on the monastery grounds.

  • The religious community numbers 173 women, 110 of whom currently live in Ferdinand at Monastery Immaculate Conception.
  • The community includes 9 women in initial formation, the first three stages of membership.
  • The Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand are members of the Federation of St. Gertrude.

Business hours

Tours are available Tuesday thru Friday: 10 and 11 a.m., 1, 2, and 3 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday: 1, 2, and 3 p.m.

For Heaven's Sake gift shop is open Monday thru Saturday: 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Sunday: 12:30 - 4 p.m.

The community was founded in 1867 when four sisters came to Ferdinand from Covington, Kentucky, to teach the children of German immigrants. Over the years, the needs of a changing world created new opportunities for the sisters to serve. Yet one reality remains constant — the sisters continue to faithfully live out their commitment to Benedictine life and to guide and support others seeking God.
