Sponsored by Ferdinand Tourism November 15-16, 2008 What is Christkindlmart? In German, Christmas wares and gifts are sold in the festival-style setting of Christkindlmart. During the weeks of Advent, toy makers, basket weavers, wood carvers, candle makers and other artisans set up booths in front of the local church, where broswers make their selections. The custom begin in the 14th century and continues today in the charming “Bavarian” village of Ferdinand, Indiana. Ferdinand’s Christkindlmarkt Heritage Markets feature lavishly decorated booths spilling over with Christmas wares, antiques, and gifts of exemplary quality, delicious regional food, live entertainment, a free concert, free tours, and so much more. Three markt sites Community Center – 1710 Community Drive Forest Park High School – 14th and Vienna Drive Monastery Gymnasium Antiques Markt – East side of the Monastery Live Entertainment Don’t miss the continuous live musical performances on center stage at the Forest Park Markt site, the Glockenspiel, the Marionette Theater, Stillpoint concert, and more. Markt Bier Stube New this year: Markt Bier Stube on Saturday night from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Admission: $3 Continuous German tunes all evening plus the Rhein Valley Brass Band (7-11 p.m.), a variety of microbreweries on-site with their brews, and German food from the renowned Schnitzelbank Restaurant Visit from Sankt Nikolaus Sankt Nikolaus will drop by all sites as well, visiting with children of all ages on Saturday and Sunday. Christkindlmarkt Events Friday, November 14 Christkindlmarkt Eve – Herald in the Season! 6:30 p.m. Outdoor gathering, weather permitting, (open to the public) Christkindl Angel appears! Sisters of St. Benedict Bell Choir performs. Trumpeters herald in the Markt! Dinner with music 7:15 p.m. (Reservations required) Monastery Immaculate Conception. Marionette Theater Melchoir Marionettes have been entertaining internationally since 1952. Half life size marionettes will perform Holiday Cabaret on Strings both days at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Commons Area at Forest Park High School. This event is sponsored by Dubois County Contractual Library and Psi Iota Xi Sorority. Live Glockenspiel Don’t miss the enchanting live Glockenspiel, performing Saturday and Sunday at 11, 12, and 1 EST at the High School Markt Site.
