What is Christkindlmart?

In German, Christmas wares and gifts are sold in the festival-style setting of Christkindlmart.

During the weeks of Advent, toy makers, basket weavers, wood carvers, candle makers and other artisans set up booths in front of the local church, where broswers make their selections.

The custom begin in the 14th century and continues today in the charming “Bavarian” village of Ferdinand, Indiana.

Ferdinand’s Christkindlmarkt Heritage Markets feature lavishly decorated booths spilling over with Christmas wares, antiques, and gifts of exemplary quality, delicious regional food, live entertainment, a free concert, free tours, and so much more.
