BACKYARD BAR-B-Q Contest

Saturday, June 20, 2008

1. Meat categories judged for overall winners: chicken, beef brisket, pork boston butt/pull pork, and pork ribs. (Meat will be judged on appearance, aroma, tenderness, doneness, and taste.
2. Minimum amount of meat to be turned in for judging: 1/2 chicken, 10 oz. beef brisket sliced, 10 oz. pull pork, and 1/2 slab of pork ribs (6 bones together)
3. Meat must be cooked on site.
4. You will not be allowed to sell meat. You are encouraged to pass out samples.
5. Each entry must have their own grill.
6. Alcoholic beverages must be covered at all times. (Coldy holder) No keg beer. No alcohol after 5 p.m. You must go to the Beer Garden to drink. The Heimatfest could lose their beer permit if this is not upheld.
7. Proper conduct will be enforced at all times. Unacceptable behavior will lead to disqualification and you will be asked to leave.
8. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third in four categories, plus an overall winner. Prizes will be awarded at 7:30 p.m. in the beer garden. You do not have to be present to win.
9. The judges decision will be final.
10. Judging for all categories will begin at 4 p.m.
11. No grilling booths to be set up before 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
12. No grilling to begin before 6 a.m.
13. Entry fee is $15 per team.
14. BE SURE NO ONE SAMPLES YOUR FOOD WITHOUT A BUTTON. PLEASE ASSIGN SOMEONE TO MONITOR THIS.
15. There will be designated areas to dispose of your charcoal. Please do not dump your grills in the grass.
16. Throw all meat scraps of fallen meat in trash cans or other appropriate containers. Please do not leave on ground.
17. Take everything home with you that your brought. Example: Broken canopies, broken grills, coolers, etc.
18. Trash boxes and extra trash bags will be provided to each team.

Peoples Choice Contest:

For $1, vote on your favorite team for Peoples Choice award. Winner will receive a trophy and cash.

FYI

There will be a pre-Bar-B-Q meeting, Wednesday June 18, 2008, at 7 p.m. at the Ferdinand Legion. Try to have at least one team member present. We will go over rules and answer any questions.
