Veteran's Memorial Dedication

Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 and VFW Post 11365, in conjunction with the Town of Ferdinand, will be dedicating the Veteran's Memorial on Memorial Day, Monday May 27 at 2pm.  U.S. Senator Mike Braun will be the keynote speaker for the event, with Council President Ken Sicard and others also making remarks.  The ceremony will begin with the raising of American and Indiana state flags, as well as the POW/MIA flag, while the National Anthem is sung. Once comments are completed, monument stones recognizing each branch of the Armed Services will be unveiled, along with a Veteran's Recognition Stone.  To conclude, a wreath will be placed at the Memorial, followed by a 21 gun salute.  Taps will be played by State Senator Mark Messmer to close the dedication.

Here are the parking requirements for that afternoon:  Ferdinand Police will be closing off Pine Drive from East 23rd Street (Forest Road) to East 25th Street, as well as portions of East 24th and 25th Streets, beginning at 12:30pm and until the conclusion of activities.  Only residents of that section of Roos Heights will be permitted into the neighborhood until completion of the ceremony.  On site parking is reserved for VIPs and handicapped attendees.  All others who wish to attend are asked to park at the Ferdinand Community Center, where shuttle bus service will be offered, starting at 1pm.  Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, as seating will be limited to various dignitaries.

The Town would like to specifically recognize Leon Weyer and the members of the American Legion and VFW Posts for bringing this project to fruition in just over one year's time, and for their diligent efforts in raising the necessary funds to make the Memorial a reality.  Many thanks as well to Seufert Construction for building the monument, while donating their design services, Weyer Electric for donating electric work at the site, the Ferdinand Chamber of Commerce for funding the lettering on the Memorial, the Ferdinand Street Department for curb and stormwater drainage work at the site, plus everyone who provided financial gifts and donations to the project.  A special plaque recognizing all donors will be installed at a future date.
